The Erl King, a short story by Angela Carter.

Exploring fairytale, its strength as a device for confronting challenging subjects, providing a universal language that an audience can easily decipher and connect with. The Erl King by Angela Carter, raises the subject of problematic and abusive relationships, I wanted to explore this further and design a performance that embodied this, that an audience would be able to connect with on sensory and visceral level.

The symbolism of the birds captive in cages, then being released provided a framework for this story.
